Exploring how people mined for coal

This week at Beach schools the boys and girls in Year 2, used all of the knowledge that they gained during their visit to Beamish, to recreate different parts of a coal mine. They did this by practicing digging skills, noticing how the holes would fill with water once they got too deep and using pulleys and hoists to move water and materials.

The children even found real coal on the beach from when our local area as covered in different aspects of the Coal Mining industry. A fantastic way to learn about local history.

We’d love to hear from you!
