Our Early Years Setting

At Wheatley Hill Community Primary School, we believe that Early Years education plays a vital role in a child's development. We encourage parents and carers to enrol their children with us as early as possible to secure a place in our exceptional Early Years Unit. Children can join us from the age of two, benefiting from a dedicated early learning space with private access to an outdoor learning environment. Then, as soon as a child turns three, they can seamlessly transition into our school nursery. Please contact us well in advance to ensure availability.

Early Years Environment

In a quality Early Years setting, the learning environment becomes the third educator, following parents and teachers—a philosophy we fully embrace at Wheatley Hill. Our brand-new Early Years space is truly exceptional, utilising natural materials to create an inspiring learning environment. Our dedicated Early Years team is immensely hardworking and passionate. We are incredibly fortunate at Wheatley Hill to offer excellent, intimate group sizes of approximately 10 children, ensuring every child receives the tailored support they deserve.

Early Years Curriculum

We believe in a blended approach to delivering our EYFS curriculum, seamlessly balancing child-initiated learning, adult-led sessions, and adult-directed tasks. Within our Early Years setting, children engage in focused adult-led activities but also spend substantial periods exploring and developing their own ideas about the world around them. Crucially, all learning in our EYFS department is directly aligned with our whole-school progression of knowledge and skills.

Children are consistently challenged through exciting tasks, activities, and targets that are individually tailored, ensuring they successfully reach the "next steps" on their personal learning journeys.

Our Early Years curriculum is purposefully built around key skills and communication. We firmly believe that without a rich command of language and fundamental thinking skills, children can find it difficult to thrive later in more challenging academic subjects.
